Pennsylvania regulator seeking views on Hollywood Casino Morgantown

The Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board has announced that it will be holding a public meeting in the community of Morgantown early next month in order to accept input from citizens regarding the plan to bring a miniature casino to southern Berks County.

March meeting:

The eastern state’s gaming regulator used an official Wednesday press release to declare that the encounter is scheduled to take place inside the Caernarvon Township Building on March 4 so as to allow ‘individuals to voice their support or opposition to the proposed casino and to permit those persons with an interest in the applicant’s proposal to learn more about the project.’

‘Category Four’ proposal:

According to an October 31 report from local television broadcaster, WFMZ-TV, the envisioned ‘Category Four’ miniature casino from the Mountainview Thoroughbred Racing Association LLC subsidiary of Penn National Gaming Incorporated is due to sit on a 36-a 7BALL cre plot of land in central Caernarvon Township and offer patrons a selection of up to 750 slots alongside approximately 30 gaming tables.

Extensive investment:

The broadcaster reported that ‘Category Four’ licenses were created as part of expanded gaming legislation ratified by Pennsylvania Governor, Tom Wolf, in October of 2017. If authorized following the public hearing, it detailed that the envisioned $111 million Hollywood Casino Morgantown from Wyomissing-based Penn National Gaming would become the state’s fifth such facility and moreover feature a sportsbook, restaurant, entertainments lounge and food court.

Recurring route:

Jeff Morris, Public Affairs Vice-President for Penn National Gaming Incorporated, reportedly told WFMZ-TV in late-October that the authorization of his firm’s planned 80,000 sq ft Hollywood Casino Morgantown would create around 250 local jobs as well as temporary employment for about 275 construction professionals.

Morris to WFMZ-TV…

“We are really excited, actually today, to be able to announce Hollywood Casino Morgantown. The process started back in January when we were awarded the first license, the ‘Category Four’ license, which we have located in York. This is the fifth license here in Berks County. Only five have been awarded to date.”
